Best Things to Do on a Women's Trip to Turkey

Dina Holland May 12, 2026

Some trips stay with you because of the places you see, and others stay with you because of the people you meet along the way. My recent trip to Turkey was one of those experiences. What made it so memorable was not only the beauty and history of the destination, but the chance to experience it through a women's journey that felt thoughtful, personal, and full of meaningful connection.

Turkey was not a destination that had been high on my personal travel list, and it was not a trip I had originally set out to plan. But when I was invited to join a women's expedition through Turkey with a small group of travel advisors, I saw it as an opportunity to experience something new and step into a destination I wanted to understand better. By the end of the trip, I knew it was a place I would gladly return to.

A Journey Designed for Connection

What made this journey so special was not just Turkey itself, although it offers so much in terms of history, beauty, culture, and variety. It was the way this particular trip was designed for women to experience the destination through connection, conversation, and meaningful local experiences.

Over the course of 10 days, we traveled through five cities using a mix of air, rail, and ground transportation. That alone gave us such a fuller picture of the country. While Istanbul is certainly a fascinating place to begin, some of the most memorable parts of the trip came from getting outside the city and seeing more of the countryside, smaller villages, and local communities.

Thoughtful Design, Personal Touches

One of the things I loved most about this women's trip was how thoughtfully it was designed. We stayed in boutique-style hotels that felt charming, comfortable, and well placed for exploring on foot. During our downtime, we could head out into the village or city center, meet local merchants, and enjoy small moments that made the destination feel personal, whether that meant stopping for Turkish tea, sipping Turkish coffee, or enjoying a little Turkish delight along the way.

Women Supporting Women

What made this trip especially meaningful was its focus on women-owned businesses and women in the local community. We had the opportunity to spend time with Turkish women from a nearby village who create handmade dolls to sell in local markets. Sitting with them, learning about their craft, and hearing more about how their work supports them made the experience feel far more personal than traditional sightseeing. We also shared a group meal prepared in the private home by a mother and her daughters that brought the Turkish food traditions to life through family recipes from many generations.

We also visited a beautiful hillside winery, where we met the female owner and learned about the generations of family history behind the wines she produces. Being able to hear her story, taste the wines, and better understand the role her business plays in the region added another layer of depth to the trip. These are the kinds of experiences that make travel feel meaningful. You are not simply moving from place to place. You are connecting with the people, traditions, and stories that bring a destination to life.

Embracing the Unexpected

Turkey also offers so much for travelers who like to stay engaged and curious throughout a trip. From local food and wine to pottery, artisan experiences, and cultural traditions, there is always something to discover. It is a destination that invites you to participate, not just observe. One of the most thought-provoking experiences on our itinerary was a visit to a hammam for a traditional Turkish bath. None of us had done anything like it before, and there was a fair amount of skepticism going in. After gathering to talk it over, we agreed it was worth embracing — a chance to fully immerse ourselves in this centuries-old Turkish tradition. It turned out to be a wonderful experience, and I couldn't imagine having done it alone; sharing it as a group made it all the more meaningful. For women who enjoy travel that feels active, layered, and full of variety, Turkey offers so many rewarding experiences.

The Comfort of Traveling Together

I also think there is something unique about exploring a destination like this as part of a women's journey. There is a certain comfort and camaraderie that comes from traveling with other women who are equally open to learning, discovering, and sharing the experience. It creates an atmosphere that feels welcoming, supportive, and memorable in a very different way.

For women looking for a destination that feels rich in culture, full of personal connection, and a little different from the usual Europe itinerary, Turkey is a wonderful choice. It offers history, beauty, warmth, and so many opportunities to experience the country in a deeper and more meaningful way.

It was a fabulous trip, and I would go back in a heartbeat. Even now, I find myself thinking about the taste of that hillside wine, the steam of the hammam, and the sound of the call to prayer drifting over the rooftops — the small things that somehow stay the longest.
